4 Key Roundabouts in Dubai get a facelift

Dubai Municipality concludes the beautification of these significant roundabouts, as part of the Public Roundabout Beauty Project.

The Dubai Public Roundabout Beauty Project is affiliated with the ‘Art in Public Spaces’ strategy, designed to solidify its status as a global hub with a rich cultural and artistic heritage, portraying Dubai as a universal destination with open access to art and culture.

The four roundabouts are:
1. Al Warqa roundabout
2. Nad Al Sheba roundabout
3. Nad Al Hamar roundabout
4. Al Khawanej roundabout

The new design of the Al-Warqa (leaf) Roundabout is inspired by the area’s name, featuring a central structure decorated with an intricate leaf bird design encircling the roundabout’s ring. This central structure stands at a height of 3.5 meters and has a thickness of 240 centimeters.

The design of Nad Al-Hamar Roundabout is also influenced by the area’s name and resembles rose petals reflecting the contours of the red dunes nearby. This design, with heights ranging from 1.9 to 2.9 meters, reflects the beauty of Nad Al-Hamar Garden.

As for Nad Al-Sheba Roundabout, it takes its concept from the term ‘NAD’, symbolizing the elevated earthy hills in the region. The roundabout’s configuration mirrors the rhythmic patterns of ocean waves, with heights varying from 0.6 to 2.0 meters.

Al-Khawanej Roundabout derives its idea from the area’s name, associated with a freshwater well known as Al-Khawanej. This three-metre-tall roundabout showcases a farm inspired by the desert agricultural heritage of the local inhabitants.

The roundabouts feature green spaces, and Sesuvium, Pennisetum, bougainvillea, Ruellia, and other seasonal flowers.

The beautification project is one of the many commenced by the municipality to boost the aesthetic aspects of public spaces through artistic designs in Dubai.

Earlier this month Dubai Municipality had also refurbished the iconic Clock Tower roundabout to include new floors and a state-of-the-art water fountain combined with 3D lighting systems.

In June, the Dubai Municipality concluded the Dhs93m ‘makeover’ project focused on the sustainable rehabilitation of key public beaches in the emirate.

The public beaches overhauled, include Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim 1. The project undertook the maintenance of beaches, particularly sites affected by erosion operations, with coastal protection facilities set up to ensure the stability and sustainability of beaches. Levels of the beach were raised to avoid exposure to strong winds and the erosion they bring, according to a Dubai Media Office report.
