Abu Dhabi: Automakers looking for more charging points for EVs

Automakers such as Audi, BMW, and MG Motors, along with several Chinese companies, showcased their luxurious electric vehicles at the Mobility Live Middle East event in Abu Dhabi. These EVs boast a mileage range of 250km to 500km, depending on engine type and pricing.

According to a German auto expert, electric cars are the future, and they have been receiving positive feedback from customers in the UAE. However, the lack of charging stations remains a significant hindrance. Despite the availability of technology and people’s interest in these EVs, there is a pressing need for more charging points. Even malls, which only have two or three charging points, are not enough.

Lucid, a luxury electric vehicle manufacturer based in the United States, is showcasing their latest model, the Lucid Air, at an exhibition. According to a sales representative, the Lucid Air will be launched in the UAE market by June and is expected to be a worthy competitor to Tesla. The company is optimistic about the car’s reception in the region, given the luxurious features it offers. The Lucid Air will be available in four different models, with prices starting at $69,900.

A representative from the Chinese state-owned company, Chang’an Automobile, announced their intention to enter the UAE market during an exhibition. The company showcased two electric vehicles, Nevo and Deepal, with Nevo being the entry-level model priced at $25,000. The representative expressed their hopes of making a significant impact in the rapidly growing market.

MG Motors, a British automobile company, is showcasing a combination of sports and hatchback designs. The MG Cyberster, an electric sports car, has grabbed attention with its stunning style and design. According to an executive, the MG Cyberster is expected to enter the market next year as a top model with a revolutionary design that can reach 100km per hour in just three seconds. Additionally, MG4 is already in the market and is suitable for families.

The Mobility Live ME is a two-day exhibition and conference that is part of the Abu Dhabi Mobility Week held at ADNEC.
