Abu Dhabi Ranked World’s Safest City For 2024 For 8th Consecutive Year

Abu Dhabi Police has revealed that Abu Dhabi has been ranked first on the world’s safest cities list in 2024, according to online database Numbeo, reflecting the emirate’s global leadership in implementing best security standards, enhancing quality of life for citizens, residents and visitors.

Securing the top spot out of 329 cities globally in the 2024 rankings, Abu Dhabi continues its impressive streak, having maintained the title of the world’s safest city since 2017.

This consistent ranking is a testament to the emirate’s dedicated efforts in ensuring an exceptional quality of life for all who live and visit there. Abu Dhabi Police revealed the city ranking, saying it reflects the emirate’s global leadership in implementing best security standards, enhancing quality of life for citizens, residents and visitors.

Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, explains that the efforts made to support the promotion of community well-being and security contributed to Abu Dhabi being chosen as the safest city in the world for the eighth year in a row.
Abu Dhabi leads the list with a score of 86.8, followed closely by Taipei, Taiwan, with a score of 84.4.

Other cities that made it to the top of the list include Doha, Qatar (84.0), Ajman, (83.5), and Dubai (83.4).

Notably, Ras al-Khaimah, also features in the top ten with a score of 83.3, along with Muscat, Oman (80.2), The Hague (Den Haag), Netherlands (79.8), Bern, Switzerland (79.5), and Munich, Germany.

“Safety is paramount when choosing a city to visit or live and work in and we are proud to be the top of the list for the second year running,” said Saif Saeed Ghobash, undersecretary at the Department of Culture and Tourism –Abu Dhabi.

“Our capital’s strong reputation for safety and a virtually crime-free society is a testament to the ongoing efforts to establish the Emirate as a destination of distinction with international standards of safety. And we hope that adds to all visitors and residents of Abu Dhabi enjoying their time and making the most of our renowned Emirati hospitality.”

Abu Dhabi’s crime index was 13.63, better than 14.41 last year and Dubai’s was 19.03, a slight improvement on 19.50 last year. Police have been aggressive about tackling what crime there is, including drug use. In June, Dubai’s most senior security official said police are “at war” with traffickers following a large rise in the amount of drugs seized in the UAE. Nationwide figures showed anti-narcotics officers arrested 6,440 people in relation to drug smuggling and drug use last year, up from 5,130 in the previous year.

On Numbeo’s scale, 1 would be no crime at all and 100 would be extremely dangerous.
