Abu Dhabi slaughterhouses extend hours for Eid Al Adha

In anticipation of the celebration of Eid Al Adha, the slaughterhouses within Abu Dhabi will be open from 6.00 am until 5.30 pm every day throughout the week, as mentioned by Abu Dhabi Municipality.

The slaughterhouses in the emirate will be operational from Sunday to Thursday for 11 and a half hours a day in anticipation of increased demand during the festive season, which may begin from June 15. Abu Dhabi City Municipality has increased its abattoirs’ capacity to meet 37,000 sacrifices and carcasses during Eid Al Adha.

Also, the municipality strengthened the workforce by raising the number of butchers, cleaning crews, and employees who are associated with the distribution of sacrifices and meats at every slaughterhouse. The municipality has also placed air-conditioned tents and shaded pathways around the outdoor yards of the slaughterhouses and offered them chilled drinking water to cater to the increasing number of esteemed guests. This special attention is accorded to the people of determination and senior citizens who often visit the abattoir.

Accordingly, the municipality has coordinated in the Zayed Port area, to prepare the sacrifices requested by the Red Crescent and through smart applications, at the Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse. In the same way, Bani Yas Slaughterhouse and Al Wathba Automated Slaughterhouse are responsible for collecting and processing the sacrifices for the esteemed public, while Al Shahama Automated Slaughterhouse manages sacrifices from smart application requests and other general public requests.

Furthermore, The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has embarked on a process to ensure that there are more butchers in all the establishments. In Bani Yas Slaughterhouse, 150 butchering personnel are employed to handle about 13,000 sacrifices and carcasses; on the other hand, Abu Dhabi Automated Slaughterhouse has 50 butchering personnel to manage approximately 10,000 sacrifices and carcasses.

However, Abu Dhabi City Municipality kindly urges the public to refrain from slaughtering their sacrifices outside the approved slaughterhouses. Doing so is considered a violation punishable under Law No. (2) of 2012 concerning the Maintenance of the General Appearance, Health, and Public Tranquility in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. To control this phenomenon, Inspection Directorate teams in the municipality’s sub-centres receive reports, follow up on them, and impose fines on violators.
