The essential oil distilled from the first hand-harvest of frankincense resins
from the Wadi Dawkah UNESCO World Heritage Site in Oman was premiered
in its purest form at one of the world’s most famous, visionary, and iconic destinations for luxury.
Muscat, Oman – 29 July 2024: The Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil was initially revealed by Amouage, the Omani High Perfumery House, exclusively to industry professionals attending the World Perfumery Congress held in Geneva, Switzerland, back in June. Now, the House unveiled the natural ingredient to a different and broader audience as part of Harrods’ fragrance week for members of the press and key partners.
The historic yet visionary London luxury department store, known for its grandeur and home to the Salon de Parfums, always had the philosophy to curate an extensive and exclusive assortment of products from around the world. It was the first time that Amouage provided a unique opportunity to experience the pure, raw, natural ingredient: The Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil. Offering a rare experience usually exclusive to perfume professionals, the audience was exposed to something unique in its purest form before it will be used by perfumers in their future and fine creations.
Amouage, known for creating some of the finest fragrances around the world, created the Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil in collaboration with the exclusive ingredients partner dsm-firmenich. The essential oil has a unique olfactory profile that intends to inspire contemporary creations in fine perfumery, blending tradition and innovation and building bridges between heritage and posterity.
The collaboration in synchronicity between dsm-firmenich and Amouage aims to make the Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil available in Amouage creations while it also holds the promise of broader availability to other fine perfumery houses that share the House’s values of excellence and authenticity.
The natural ingredient is one of the outcomes of a larger project in Oman’s Southern region that has fallen under the patronage of Amouage since the end of 2022: The Wadi Dawkah UNESCO World Heritage Site. A protected sanctuary on whose lands, every day and for centuries, thousands of Boswellia sacra trees witness a new sunrise and shed a tear as they secret the aromatic frankincense resin, the purest element of their wood.
From this resin, which is harvested by Omani employees of Amouage using a combination of ancient artisanal knowledge and innovative practices, the Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil is distilled. The aim is to establish the essential oil distillation unit on the site, further creating job opportunities for Omani people while reducing carbon emissions from transportation.
The ideal climatic and orographic conditions and a meticulously monitored harvesting and distillation process ensure the highest quality of essential oil. With its delicate yet complex and multi-layered character, the Wadi Dawkah Omani Frankincense Essential Oil is set to captivate perfumers and connoisseurs from around the world by offering them an exclusive and engaging experience. The distinctive olfactive profile of the essential oil and its behaviour are reflected in its chemical composition, with an alpha-pinene content of over 70%, differing from any other frankincense oil.
