Fans of British band Coldplay are in for a treat as they are ready to launch its long-awaited Music of the Spheres World Tour. The show promises a splash effect in the UAE’s air transport category, particularly since the ticket prices for their January 2025 event go up to three times as much.
Originally scheduled for one show, Coldplay will now appear four nights in a row at the 44,600-seater Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 9, 11, 12, and 14. Further concerts were confirmed following an incredible response in general ticket sales, but particularly from ticket buyers in Asia, Africa, and the GCC countries. The mass popularity of the band among Millennials and Gen Z, especially in India, Pakistan, and the GCC, has generated a craze for both tickets and flights to the UAE.
The increase in flight bookings has already inflated airfares, and prices are expected to rise further as concert dates near, noted Shamsheed CV, senior consultant at Wisefox Tourism. “Airfare from cities in South India, for instance, which is now priced in the range of Dh450, would likely go double by mid-January,” he said.
Libin Varghese, sales director at Rooh Tourism, cautioned that prices from Asia and the GCC will also soar by almost 300% in the coming weeks. “We expect a significant price hike as thousands of fans are to head to UAE for the concerts,” Varghese said.
The concert will bring in waves of tourists visiting the UAE, greatly benefiting the tourist, hospitality, and retail sectors. According to travel agents, people should book flights and accommodation well in advance to avoid inflated rates or lack of availability.
