The Dubai Health Authority has announced free screening and medical treatment for Hepatitis C. This plan is part of the Dubai Mandatory Health Insurance Scheme.
Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the virus which can cause both acute and chronic hepatitis from a mild illness for a few weeks and in some cases it becomes lifetime illness.
According to a survery analysis it was found that almost 399,000 people die each year from Hepatitis C. Majority of people die due to cirrhosis and liver cancer because of the late diagnosis of the disease.
Doctors say that early diagnosis and antiviral medicines can cure more than 95 percent of the illness and reduces the chances of death. But currently there is no vaccine available for Hepatitis C, therefore DHA is offering free screening and treatment for the infection to minimize the risk of death through cirrhosis and liver cancer.
