Dubai: Al Khail Road Improvement Project to include 5 new flyovers

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently conferred a contract valued at AED700 milliroadsAl Khail on ($190.57 million) for the Al Khail Road Improvement Project which will include 5 new flyovers.

This initiative aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow along Al Khail Road, eliminate congestion at flyovers that cross Al Khail Road, ensure efficient traffic movement, and reduce travel times by 30 percent. This project involves the construction of bridges spanning a total of 3,300 meters and improvements to the road covering 6,820 meters across seven different locations along Al Khail Road. The primary objective of the project is to expand the capacity of existing intersections and bridges by approximately 19,600 vehicles per hour.

Al Khail Road serves as a critical traffic corridor in Dubai, stretching from Business Bay to its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and consists of six lanes in each direction.

Seven sites

The project focuses on seven specific sites along Al Khail Road:

  • The first site, Zabeel, involves the construction of a three-lane bridge spanning 700 meters to accommodate approximately 4,800 vehicles per hour. This bridge will link traffic from Zabeel Palace Street and Oud Metha Road directly onto Al Khail Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi.
  • The second site, Meydan, will see the construction of a two-lane bridge extending 610 meters to accommodate around 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge will link traffic from Al Meydan Road to Al Khail Road in the direction of Deira.
  • The third site, Al Quoz 1, involves the construction of a two-lane bridge spanning 650 meters to accommodate approximately 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge will link traffic from Al Meydan Road to Al Khail Road in the direction of Abu Dhabi.
  • The fourth site, Ghadeer Al Tair, will feature the construction of a two-lane bridge extending 640 meters with a capacity to accommodate about 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge will link traffic from Latifa Bint Hamdan Street to Al Khail Road in the direction of Deira.
  • The fifth site, Jumeirah Village Circle, will include the construction of a two-lane bridge spanning 700 meters to accommodate approximately 3,200 vehicles per hour. This bridge will connect traffic from Al Khail Road to Hessa Street.
  • At the sixth site, Al Jaddaf, the project will focus on widening the surface of Al Khail Road by adding a new lane to enhance traffic flow in the direction of Deira. This addition will increase the road’s capacity by approximately 2,000 vehicles per hour.
  • Finally, at the seventh site, the project will involve widening the surface of Al Khail Road at the entrance to Business Bay by adding an extra lane.

This will ensure smoother traffic flow to the Business Bay area from Al Khail Road and enhance traffic safety in that part of the road in the direction of Abu Dhabi.
