Dubai Mall has recently installed a floating sculpture above the fountain. The new installation has grabbed the attention of many visitors who are admiring the beauty of this master piece but clueless what exactly it could be.
According to the organizers, the sculpture is a representation of time, 1.78 microseconds to be exact. It is comprised of layers to bright polyethylene threads tied over 600,000 knots over nearly 124 kilometers of string. The layers are 15 times stronger than steel by weight.
The sculpture ‘1.78’ is the latest art piece of an American artist Janet Echelman from her Earth Time Series, and she described it as an exploration of cyclical time. The sculpture is also a new addition in the public arts initiative at Downtown Dubai and currently displayed at the Waterfront Promenade.
