Dubai Municipality has also recently finished the construction of the longest mountain trails in UAE; bike trails which consist of 21 cycling tracks with a cumulative length of 53km and 17 hiking trails with a total distance of 33km.
There are 9 wooden bridges 14 resting and service points included. The Hatta Mountain Trails is one of number of projects being launched and developed by the Dubai Municipality to bring out the Hatta as a prime tourism asset in the region.
The trails, designed to cater to outdoor enthusiasts of all levels, are divided into four color-coded levels of difficulty:
H.E. Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Hatta Mountain Trails project has been developed to enhance the quality of living in Dubai and position it as the most active and healthy city in the world. Our ambition is to implement initiatives that serve the Hatta area, establishing it as a leading tourist destination for residents and tourists.”
Al Hajri continued: “Designed to host international events and competitions, the Hatta Mountain Trails meet the highest health and safety standards. We have also enhanced public facilities and services to boost tourism in Hatta, supporting the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to make Dubai a more attractive city that provides the best quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”
H.E. added: “Built using the latest equipment and materials that complement the surrounding Hatta landscape, the trails will provide a truly unique experience for cycling enthusiasts.”
Riders using the Hatta Mountain Trails can enjoy a host of facilities that include car parking toillets bike rental and repair, community picnic areas, refueling stations and rider resting areas.
Hatta Mountain Bike Trails are now open for active cycling community, Events, Races and competitions have been scheduled to introduce year-round events to allow growth in cycling skills as well as friendly healthy competition.
In the first cycle of the project, the heads of Dubai Municipality launched a large-scale program of development of the site in record time – only 10 months.
This included the development and management of existing hiking and mountain bike trails and also the reinforcement of soils where necessary to enhance the safety and manoeuvre of the hikers using those trails.
The works also included the systematic maintenance on all the existing bridges, the most damaged of which have been replaced.
In the second stage, actual accommodation and service facilities where developed along the trails and other areas of interest together with the provision of 176 sign posts and 650 directional signs in a bid to ensure that cyclists on the Hatta Mountain Trails delivery a secure and unique experience.
These trails range through several types of ground features and geographical setups such as rocky Terrain, mountainous, rugged peaks, and valleys.
And offer spectacular viewpoints and a feel of Hatta Mountain for able-bodied low- medium to high-able outdoor lovers.
