People facing cyber-crime in Dubai can now report it online. Recently, Dubai Police has launched a new website www.ecrime.ae for public to report online cyber-crime and related activities.
It includes, online bullying, hacking, suspicious emails, cyber-extortion and social media related issues.
Few simple steps are involved in reporting complain on the website. First, you must determine whether it’s a cyber complain or an online service issue. Then, you need to enter your Emirates ID and contact number, you will receive a confirmation text message through which you can further proceed with the website, fill in some personal details and report the incident.
The director of Dubai Police Cybercrime Department, Colonel Saeed Al Hajari said the service aims at providing a “true and effective measurement of cyber-crime”. It is hoped the number of complaints filed by the public will increase thanks to the new platform.
According to the UAE cyber-crime law which was issued in 2012, the punishment for cyber-crime ranges from Dhs50,000 to life imprisonment, depending on the severity of the crime.
This new cyber-crime website is part of Dubai 2021 Plan. It aims to provide internet users an online platform to report illegal internet activities.
