Dubai Police Seize Nearly 1,800 Scooters and Bicycles for Safety Violations

Dubai Police confiscated 1,780 scooters and bicycles as part of a recent traffic safety violations campaign to reduce the risks posed by improper use of these vehicles. The operation carried out in cooperation with Al Rifa’a Police Station, seized 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters across the Al Rifa’a jurisdiction.

The violations included mainly the use of scooters and bicycles in areas without which are public roads and pedestrian pathways, along with great risks to the safety of individuals involved, either as the rider or other road users. During the operation, Dubai Police issued 251 fines for other offenses relating to failure to wear helmets, failure to follow traffic signals, and lack of important safety elements such as reflective clothes and appropriate lighting of the vehicle.

As part of its continuous efforts on road safety, Dubai Police highlighted the most important safety guidelines to be observed by riders:

  • Utilize bike lanes
  • Avoid pedestrian walkways and jogging paths
  • Never carry a passenger on an electric scooter
  • That bikes and scooters must be installed with enough front and rear lights
  • Be equipped with helmets and reflective vests
  • While cycling, dismount and walk the bicycle across the pedestrian crossings
  • Ride at a reasonable distance from both vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Riders are also advised not to tamper with their vehicle and avoid towing or being towed by any other vehicle, and to use rear and side lights especially at night.

Dubai Police, meanwhile, called on residents to be vigilant and report any unsafe practices by downloading the “Police Eye” application on the Dubai Police app or by calling the “We Are All Police” hotline on 901. This campaign represents an affirmation of the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users.
