Dubai recorded 94 reckless driving accidents so far this year and up to Dh600 fine for perpetrators

Since the last six months, the records of the General Department of Traffic indicated that ninety-four traffic accidents were reported in Dubai. Dangerous Reversing in prohibited areas, driving against traffic and failure to observe mandatory lanes were among the main offences that Dubai motorists had been noted to have committed.

Among the 94 accidents identified in the emirate, 64 of them are caused by motorists’ failure to obey mandatory lanes. On the other hand, motorists driving in the wrong direction resulting to 14 incidences of road carnage. Also, some drivers did not respect mandatory lanes by reversing and endangering others and led to 16 crashes.

This is due to ever increasing reports of motorists driving in the opposite direction of traffic flow; Federal traffic and traffic law states that offenders will be charged Dh600 and have their six traffic points reduced. However, in the case of dangerous reversing, the fine is Dh500 and 4 traffic points will also be given. The light vehicle owners who ignore the mandatory lane will be penalty of Dh400.

Some people think that they can easily commit without even realizing its severe consequences and can lead to the killing of innocent individuals, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police said this.

The statistics of the last year show that there were 177 traffic accidents, out of which 113 occurred in violation of mandatory lanes. Out of twenty-eight accidents caused by violation of the driving against the traffic flow, thirty-six accidents resulted from failure to observe mandatory lanes.
