The public transportation giant, Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) is going to expand activities across the UAE and not only remain focused on ride-hailing, taxi, and limousine services in Dubai. DTC’s CEO, Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi spilled the beans on the plan during the World Government Summit in Dubai on Tuesday and said that the company is looking for avenues to penetrate new markets.
According to Alfalasi, “We are studying our next steps as to how we could expand our fleet to other emirates.” Currently, DTC operates more than 9000 vehicles, including 6000 taxis and employs around 17500 drivers in four key areas: taxis, VIP limousines, buses, and delivery services. The company, which was established in 1994, transitioned into a public shareholding entity in 2023.
Within last year, in addition to the expansion workout inside the UAE, this giant also struck one big collaboration with Bolt, one of the leading e-hailing platforms globally. Dubbed December, the collaboration chiefly concerning limo services has plans of migrating to conventional taxi services within the application by the first quarter of 2025.
Bolt, whose active users cut across more than 600 cities globally, approximates to have about 200 million active users. Bolt is said to have shown an interest in spreading its wings within the UAE. Alfalasi mentioned that DTC is open to further collaborations with Bolt, possibly adding services such as micro-mobility solutions, e-scooter and e-bike rentals, food and grocery delivery, and short-term car rentals.
There are already the typical other emirate locations where DTC has set up shop; namely, Abu Dhabi through Talabat with delivery bikes, and school buses operating in Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman. According to Alfalasi, if DTC is on the verge of expanding taxi services beyond Dubai, it will announce the plans to the public at the relevant time.
On a futuristic note, he also cited Dubai’s journey into transforming into an autonomous transport hub. The DTC will launch fully autonomous taxis by 2026 on the streets of Dubai. This goal was initiated by the tasks set earlier in September 2023 for the rollout of self-driving vehicles in Jumeirah 1.
Accomplished, these self-driving taxis make Dubai the first city outside the United States to commercially operate Cruise self-driving vehicles-largely progressing toward the future of transportation. Dubai Mosque is all set to put down precedents with ambitious expansion plans all set to strike innovations as it has paved the rich history of transportation into a new era in the UAE and beyond.
Now has been created to set a new standard for being ambitious with plans of expansion and innovation. Dubai Taxi now opens another chapter in the history of transportation within the UAE and abroad.
