Dubai is set to add another marvel to its iconic skyline with the Burj Azizi, a groundbreaking 132-story skyscraper that will become the world’s second tallest building upon its completion in 2028. Standing at an impressive 725 meters, it will surpass Kuala Lumpur’s Merdeka 118 and be second only to the Burj Khalifa.
The tower, a Dh6-billion project by Azizi Developments, will house a range of luxurious amenities, including the world’s highest hotel lobby, nightclub, restaurant, and observation deck. The building will also feature a vertical shopping mall, a seven-star hotel inspired by cultural themes, penthouses, residences, and wellness facilities, among other attractions.
Designed by Dubai-based architectural firm AE7, the Burj Azizi will test the limits of engineering, particularly due to its mixed-use nature. With different zones for the hotel, residences, and retail spaces, the challenge is ensuring smooth access to each section within a small footprint. The design team, led by Erik Hokanson, Matthew Fineout, and Moosa Swaidan, has focused on optimizing the tower’s core to balance the needs of its multiple functions while maintaining space efficiency.
Construction of Burj Azizi comes with significant technical challenges. The narrow base of the tower and its vertical design require innovative structural solutions, including deep foundations and wind tunnel testing. Despite these hurdles, the team is pushing boundaries, using the latest technology to ensure the tower’s stability and functionality.
Not just an architectural feat, the Burj Azizi will become a symbol of Dubai’s ambition, offering a striking addition to the city’s skyline. The building is set to stand as a tribute to Dubai’s legacy of innovation, engineering, and architectural excellence.
