Dubai to Build Over 17,000 Affordable Homes in Six Areas

On Wednesday, March 12, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Executive Council-approved the land allocation to develop more than 17,000 affordable homes throughout Dubai.

Some key features to note in this announcement are:

  • Land Allocation: As per the development of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the total area of land allocated for affordable housing measures 1.46 million square meters.
  • Total Number of Units: The development will consider the provision of 17,080 residential units; thus, housing options would fairly span most income levels.
  • Target Group: The project will also focus on skilled professionals, thereby guaranteeing housing and essential services for people of all income levels

Six Development Areas

Phase One of the project will concentrate on the development of affordable housing in six active neighborhoods:

  • Al Mueisim 1
  • Al Twar 1
  • Al Qusais Industrial 5
  • Al Leyan 1

Upon development, the new homes will be designed to be spacious with high-end finishes and offered at low rents. These areas will also be provided with all services and infrastructure to foster a lively community, ensuring good economic growth.

Policy and Implementation

The Supreme Committee for Urban Planning will oversee the development of this project, in coordination with:

  • Dubai Land Department
  • Dubai Municipality
  • Roads and Transport Authority
  • General Directorate for Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai
  • Dubai Civil Defence
  • Dubai Real Estate Corporation

Other Initiatives Approved by Sheikh Hamdan

  • Education Policy: Also approved was the enactment of a new educational policy designed to promote Arabic language and Islamic studies in private schools. The overriding goals are to raise academic performance and the number of Emirati teachers.
  • Independent Legal Consultant Project: The independent legal consultation program allows Emirati legal practitioners to advise without having to establish a physical office. This project aims to promote flexible employment opportunities for citizens.

These measures are further testimony to Dubai’s unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life of its residents, promoting economic prosperity, and nurturing a diverse yet cohesive society.
