Dubai to Raise Sewage Tariff for the First Time in Ten Years

The Dubai Municipality has agreed on a new sewage tariff structure, raising sewage charges in the emirate for the first time in ten years. The new tariffs will be gradually implemented over the next three years and will cover household and business accounts within its service areas.

It will improve the saving of water, promote sustainability, and see to it that the structure is capable enough to withstand the massive growth of people in Dubai. All of these changes will be seen in accordance with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, based on how the city’s infrastructure would be adjusted for the expansions needed.

New Sewage Tariff

  • 1.5 fils per gallon from 2025
  • 2 fils per gallon from 2026
  • 2.8 fils per gallon from 2027

The new rates, officials said, are still lower than the global average, even for cities having the same economic profile.

The increased fee is because of the rapid growth and population increase in Dubai. The population is projected to hit around 7.8 million by 2040 and this will increase the load on the critical infrastructure including sewage systems.

Dubai’s status as a global business, tourism, and innovation hub means there is a growing need for sustainable urban development. A fee hike is one step in the process toward developing a future-ready city capable of meeting changing needs and demands from its residents and visitors.
