Dubai will host a large-scale cycling race like the Tour de France

Dubai will be hosting one of the largest bicycle races in the world later this February.

L’Etape Dubai will witness approximately 2000 cyclists shifting through the gears in the prominent Dubai cycling event on 2nd February 2014.

The actual race will cover a distance of 110 km and three other races will be conducted in which kids, families, and other riders can participate.

Originally started in 1993 on the occasion of the Tour de France, it involves amateur cyclists riding the same stage as the professionals and has grown international with events in other countries.

And now the major event is approaching – the city of Dubai, which is famous for its love of cycling.

If the reader is interested in being a part of the event, then there would be several dates when he or she can actually express his or her desire to participate. For The Ride, you have up to Monday, September 30 to confirm and for The Race registration deadline, you have up to Tuesday, December 31.

L’Etape Dubai will comprise four race stages to be held over two days and pass some of the emirate’s most recognizable landmarks, so be prepared for some traffic disruption on the relevant days.

We are still yet to determine the exact course to take but what is certain is the fact that there will be a racing village at the starting line and the finishing line.

On Saturday 1st of February, there will be a special kids race over 300 meters and 3km subject to the ability of the rider. This race will start at 9 o’clock in the morning.

Family ride of at least 20km will be held at 9:30 am while fun activities and entertainment for the whole gang will be available during the start of the race as well as finish line.

While on Sunday, the complete 110km L’Etape Dubai race will be participated and a mini cycling race that covers 60km known as The Ride will also be conducted. These races will commence at 6:00 am of February 2.

Plans are also happening to direct several introductory training and qualifying races launching in September.

Cycling is a big deal in Dubai, with consistent local and international competitive and community races held in the city throughout the year.

Earlier this month, a new mountain trail in Hatta was opened traversing 53 kilometers.

The city is continuously working on new cycling paths and routes to make it easier to get around the emirate on two wheels with a huge 13.5km route connecting Al Sufouh with Dubai Hills part of plans.
