Dubai’s 64km Green Spine: Solar-powered trams, 300MW system revealed for E311 route

The ‘Dubai Green Spine’ on the 64 km Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (E311), a sustainable corridor plan, is in its early stages and spearheaded by an urban planning and development firm URB.

EPIC Lab, the research limb of the company shall advance this transformative innovation to respond to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The objective of the project is to transform the City Transportation System, enhance environmental and social quality, and prepare for the increase of the population of Dubai.

This justified the vision of the Dubai Green Spine being more of an innovational tool of urban transit than a layout strategy; it is reconfiguring the urban settings to accommodate human life, noted Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB.

“This initiative exemplifies how integrated, thoughtful urban planning can drastically improve city life, turning everyday environments into vibrant ecosystems that nurture both people and the planet,” he added.

Solar-generated trams at the core of Dubai Green Spine Project

At the heart of the Dubai Green Spine, there are going to be 100% solar-powered trams, accompanied by a massive 300 MW solar power plant. This can also be useful in the utilization of clean energy, vital in decreasing the city’s carbon footprints and cuts out the dependence on cars and encourages the use of other transport means.

The project also promises better community and biodiversity via extensive green spaces with various abodes.

Thus, these areas serve not only aesthetic purposes to enhance the look of cities but are also essential components of environmental and people’s health. By being linked through these networks of pedestrians and cycling, these areas supplement the possibility of walking and cycling hence decreasing the use of automobiles.

Also, the incorporation of mixed-use purposes will also allow to have residential, business, and leisure areas interlinked, in order to support the flow of the urban environment mainly and people’s interactions inside. These developments guarantee that our day-to-day needs are just a stone’s throw away, thereby promoting the city vibrancy.
