DEC, soon to be the largest indoor event and exhibitions venue in the region, is currently being developed under a massive expansion that is going to take place at Expo City Dubai. Such is the extent of the development in that 14,000 tonnes of steel— equivalent to two Eiffel Towers—and 78,000 square meters of roof sheeting are being installed in the project.
The new venue will have enough space for up to 20 simultaneous events and will be large enough to accommodate big exhibition shows such as Gulf Foods, Arab Health, and Gitex, among others planned to be moved to the new facility.” DTCM said. The first phase of the project has been provided with permanent exhibition halls of 64,000 square meters and temporary space is 30,000 square meters, that amounts to 140,000 square meters in indoor area. With the expanded center, it can accommodate up to 50,000 visitors a day.
Focused on LEED certification standards, DEC focuses on sustainability with its column-free halls at a grand area of 120 meters that can be flexible enough for big scale or multiple events to take place simultaneously. Apart from that, parking facilities along with marshaling yards have also been incorporated to achieve better logistical event arrangements.
Mahir Julfar, Executive Vice President at DWTC, said that this expansion is aligned with Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, which wants to double annual international events from 300 to 600 by 2033. This is going to triple Dubai’s annual economic output from Dh18 billion to Dh54 billion and further puts the city at the world map for exhibitions and events.
Dubai World Trade Centre shall host key events such as concerts, government summits and graduation ceremonies against all odds.” Bookings have been secured up to 2039 indicating that there has always been an enduring demand for these facilities.
