Five New Bridges Over Trade Centre Roundabout to Cut Travel Time to One Minute in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority recently issued a statement that five new bridges are to be put up across Dubai’s Trade Centre Roundabout. This is an effort to improve the movement of traffic and alleviate traffic congestion in this particular section.

All those who use the roundabouts for traveling will enjoy faster routes. Here are the key features.

Key Features of the Project

  • Total Span: The length span will be more than 5,000 meters while connecting Sheikh Zayed Road with five major streets like Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.
  • Traffic Capacity: The project valued at Dh696.414 million will eventually increase the existing capacity of the intersection by two folds, therefore, providing with an average delay of 12 minutes decreasing to 90 seconds.
  • Significant Time Savings: It will save a lot of time. The travelling time would go down from six minutes to one minute from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street.
  • Improved Connectivity: The project will facilitate smoother traffic from 2nd December Street (serving Jumeirah and Al Satwa) to Al Majles Street, leading to Al Mustaqbal Street, which services the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

Details of the Five Bridges

  1. Bridge from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street:
    • A two-lane bridge extending 1,000 meters with a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour.
  2. Bridges Connecting Sheikh Rashid Street to 2nd December Street:
    • Two two-lane bridges extending 2,000 meters, designed to handle 6,000 vehicles per hour.
  3. Bridges from Al Majles Street to 2nd December Street:
    • Two two-lane bridges, also extending 2,000 meters, connecting Al Mustaqbal Street to 2nd December Street, each with a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour.

This ambitious project is part of a broader development plan, which includes the upcoming Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, expected to be awarded this November. The new bridges are set to benefit over half a million residents and visitors from surrounding communities, enhancing the overall traffic flow in one of Dubai’s key intersections.
