At the Arabian Market, Ghaith Al Ghaith, the CEO of flydubai, announced that the airline will operate at Al Maktoum International Airport and DXB in the coming years. He mentioned that Flydubai will start operations in Jebel Ali in the next couple of years as they need to grow in Dubai World Central. Eventually, they will move to Al Maktoum International Airport because Dubai airport will be closed down. In the relocation, there will be plans for handover, and flydubai will be part of that plan.
On Sunday, April 28, the day the plans were announced, flydubai posted that Al Maktoum International Airport would be their new home, and they were excited about the plans for the next ten years.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, CEO and founder of the Emirates Group and Chairman of Dubai World, stated that the first phase of the project would be ready within ten years. The new airport would accommodate 150 million passengers annually, which is more than the 86 million passengers who flew through DXB in 2023. The airport will have more than 400 aircraft gates, five parallel runways with the highest operational specifications, and a total of five passenger terminal buildings. Once fully complete, the airport will span 70 square kilometers.
Dubai has revealed ambitious plans for Al Maktoum International Airport, which will see it become the world’s largest capacity airport.
The Dhs128 billion project will be five times the size of the existing Dubai International Airport when it is eventually completed.
Flydubai has recently announced a retrofit project to upgrade the cabin interior for the majority of its next-generation Boeing fleet. The aim is to complete the retrofit program before the end of the year.
According to the flydubai chief, operations were halted for a day and calibrated, which helped the airline overcome challenges. He stated that the infrastructure of Dubai Airport is the best in class and there is no cause for concern.
In the first four months of this year, the airline reached 5 million passengers, and the flydubai chief expects the full-year numbers to surpass 15 million, beating last year’s 13.8 million passenger numbers.
He also mentioned that bookings for summer are looking very strong, and the airline plans to relaunch 10 destinations during the summer.
