Free international calls introduced on Dubai Metro during Ramadan

Dubai has announced the introduction of free international calls worldwide, to keep the expats connected with their loved ones.

The service is available during the holy month of Ramadan and Dubai Metro stations now host special phone booths connecting commuters with their loved ones worldwide.

Under the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)’s ‘We Bring You Closer’ campaign, the service is sure to benefit foreign workers who toil hard away from their family members and find it difficult to keep in touch with their loved ones.

In collaboration with Keolis, the operator of Dubai Metro and Tram, four telephone booths have been set up at stations, including Al Ghubaiba, Union, and Jebel Ali Metro stations.

It is worth mentioning here that Dubai and the United Arab Emirates host millions of foreign workers, the majority of whom belong to India and Pakistan. This service is vital considering the otherwise expensive phone call facility available to foreign workers. This initiative reflects the RTA’s commitment to fostering community engagement and teamwork, aligning with their Ramadan theme, “Journey of Good.”

Under the “Modes of Good” initiative, a broader version of RTA’s Meals on Wheels annual program, volunteers from RTA and Keolis prepare and distribute 8,000 meals during Ramadan using various modes of transport, including buses and Abras. This effort supports bus drivers, delivery bike riders, truck drivers, and Abra riders with special visits to worker accommodations to distribute meals, reinforcing community bonds.

Furthermore, the RTA, in collaboration with charitable societies like Beit Al Khair Society, is launching the Ramadan Tent Project to provide 2000 Iftar meals to fasting individuals through a dedicated tent setup.
