With the approach of the new year, many significant UAE rules and regulations which will be enforced starting in 2025. It will bring several changes in life for many residents. Amongst new driving license rules, there is a compulsion to food labeling, among others. The list below gives an overview of some of the most expected changes.
On March 29, new federal traffic law will limit the minimum age of getting one’s driving license to 17. Besides, it introduces the ban on noisy vehicles along with the restriction of the use of car horns within cities only in emergency situations. Pedestrians will no longer be allowed to pass through roads with a speed level of more than 80km/h. Violations like driving under the influence or hitting and running will be taken very seriously. Transporting hazardous materials or strange payloads also calls for a license.
Effective June 1, Abu Dhabi will introduce its compulsory nutrition grading system. This will necessitate five different types of food products including baked products, oils, dairy, and children’s food products to post a Nutri-Mark grade that ranges from A for the healthiest to E. All those products without the mark or posting incorrect grades will be withdrawn, and fines will be imposed. The system is fighting obesity through the provision of clear information on nutritional information to the consumers. Other items that would be added in the future into the Nutri-Mark system.
Starting from 1st January, private joint-stock companies in the United Arab Emirates will be mandated by the UAE Ministry of Economy to have a woman on the board of directors. This is a bid to increase female members in the business world.
Starting January 1, genetic testing will become obligatory as part of the comprehensive premarital check for UAE citizens. This, therefore, will help identify well over 570 genetic mutations identified as causing hereditary diseases – aiming to improve public health conditions.
By 2025, private companies with 20-49 employees will be expected to have at least two Emiratis on staff, which will be an upgrade from the current requirements for big companies. Non-compliance will be fined, and companies using false Emiratisation will be slapped with huge fines.
