Latest Traffic Regulations in Dubai: AI-Powered Cameras and Radars Enforce New Safety Measures

Dubai Police has incorporated contemporary technology for the safety of the road by using AI-powered cameras and radar systems, which will help in monitoring traffic violations. Improvement in accident and responsible driving along with the implementation of the laws on traffic is the main agenda of the system. Here are some of the latest updates regarding traffic regulations in Dubai.

AI Cameras to Identify Violations of Seatbelts and More

Dubai Police has installed the advanced AI cameras that have the capabilities of detecting a number of traffic violations. The cameras have been trialed for the past three years, and they are now operated throughout the emirate, helping AI cameras in the detection of many traffic offenses such as determining whether drivers and passengers are wearing seatbelts.

Brigadier Mohammed Ali Karam, director of the Traffic Technologies Department at Dubai Police, said: “The cameras can even identify seatbelts through tinted windows and low-light conditions. It could differentiate both items and would give assurance of screening under challenging conditions.”

Other violations monitored by the cameras are distracted driving that detects the mobile phone use while driving through the hand movements. Additionally, the system could capture the modified vehicles with loud engines of more than 95 decibels which exceed the legal limit.

For the seatbelt violation, there is a fine of Dh400 and four black points for motorists, while modified engine fines go for Dh2,000 with 12 black points. The cameras automatically issue fines with photographic and video evidence, thus making the enforcement of traffic rules less dependent on human beings.

New Radar System Targeting Tailgating and Excessive Noise

Dubai Police have also put in place radars that cater for tailgating offenses, which seem to be an increasing concern on the roads of the city. Drivers, previously warned against tailgating, will now automatically issue fines through the new radar system. The violations of tailgating are attractable with fines of Dh400 and four black points.

The last benefit provided by the radar is checking noise levels from the vehicles that make a lot of noise and the cause of that is mostly modified engines. In the event the noise exceeds the legally permitted decibel level, a fine of Dh2,000 is charged with 12 black points on the driver.

This radar is capable of registering many other offenses like driving over the speed limit, disobeying red lights, and crossing over from one lane to another without proper signaling about it. For example, a sum of Dh3,000, an impounding of the vehicle for 60 days, and 23 black points is levied against the violator that drives beyond the stipulated speed limit by more than 80 km/h.

Summary of Key Offenses and Fines

  • Tailgating: Dh400 fine and four black points
  • Not Wearing a Seatbelt: Dh400 fine and four black points
  • Excessive Noise from Modified Engines: Dh2,000 fine and 12 black points
  • Speeding: Fines ranging from Dh300 to Dh3,000, with potential vehicle impoundment
  • Running Red Lights: Dh1,000 fine, 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 12 black points

Conclusion

The new regulations and technologies are part of Dubai’s continuous effort to make the roads safer and enforce responsible driving. These authorities are working towards a more intelligent and efficient traffic enforcement system for the safety of all road users by employing AI-enabled cameras and radar systems. Motorists are advised to remain cautious and adhere to traffic rules to avoid being fined or penalized.
