Starting from Monday, January 15, the minimum top-up for Nol cards has been increased to Dh20.
One of the fastest, most convenient, and affordable ways to move around is by using the Dubai Metro. However, you may need to adjust your transportation budget slightly from Monday, January 15 as announced by RTA (The Roads and Transport Authority).
Earlier this month, RTA announced the new policy that came into effect today, January 15. However, this is only applies to commuters topping up their Nol cards at ticket offices.
While the card is still quite pocket-friendly, commuters recharging at metro stations will now be required to top up with a minimum amount of Dhs20. The higher pricing announced recently is aimed at reducing queues at offices in metro stations.
Currently, this new rate doesn’t apply to commuters topping up online, so if you’d like to save a few dirhams, opt to recharge that way instead. There are plenty of ways to recharge online, including the Nol Pay app, the RTA website and app, the Dubai now application and more.
Keeping your Nol card topped up can help you carry less cash and avoid carrying multiple bank cards. This is because, in addition to the metro, the nol card can be used on other public transport services such as buses, trams, ferries, abras, and more. This handy card can also be used at supermarkets, restaurants, Dubai attractions, pharmacies, and other everyday services (e.g. paying for parking and taxi fare). The maximum value for an anonymous nol card is Dhs1,000 while a registered card card can hold a maximum amount of Dhs5,000.
Now that you’re clued up on the nol card rates for 2024, remember you can still top up online with the previous lower rate.
Apart from ticketing offices, here are some ways commuters can recharge their Nol card for less than Dh20.
