A new bus lane has also been set up on First Al Khail Street in Al Quoz and the violators of the lane will face a fine of Dh600, the media has learned. The dedicated bus lane is only in one direction, which is from Al Quoz Bus Station to the Bowling Centre going to Zaa’beel. However, it does not have bright red patterns with solid yellow lines seen on Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, Naif Street, and Al Ghubaiba Road. The first bus lane on First Al Khail Street has yellow broken lines, allowing motorists to turn right into Latifa bint Hamdan Street towards Al Khail Road or take the service road near the Galadari office.
Earlier, in April, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) planned to build more bus and taxi corridors extending for 13.1km on six vital roads – bringing the total number of dedicated bus corridors in Dubai to 20.1km. As earlier planned, the aim was to reduce the time of traveling by almost 60 percent on some routes through new special lanes on Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, 2nd of December, Al Satwa, Al Nahda, Omar bin Al Khattab, and Naif streets. RTA also pointed out that extending the bus and taxi lanes should increase the usage of public transport by 30 percent or more on certain roads.

The given bus lanes will improve the trustworthiness of public bus transport in Dubai, Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of RoadSafetyUAE, told the media. They will not only shorten travel time but will also ensure adherence to the timetable as buses will not get caught up in traffic.
“This is another innovation for Dubai and this is always good news for raising awareness around road safety,” he added.
Edelmann is also confident the dedicated lanes “will lead to more bus users, which in turn will lead to fewer vehicles on the roads and reduce traffic jams, pollution, and erratic behavior of some motorists.”
