Majid Al Futtaim, the operator of the Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, and City Centre Mirdif, confirmed on Thursday that there will be no increase in parking fees at those three malls. This came a day after announcing a five-year agreement with Parkin, the largest provider of paid public parking in the emirate, to introduce barrier less parking for more than 20 million vehicles annually passing through those malls from January 2025.
“Importantly, the fees haven’t changed. We are not looking at an increase,” said Khalifa Bin Braik, chief executive of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management. He explained that parking remains free for four hours at Mall of the Emirates and three hours at City Centre Deira, and fee waivers are applicable through shop purchases. City Centre Mirdif will continue to provide free parking.
The agreement with Parkin will improve parking management without adjusting the prevailing fees. “We want to keep the transparency and consistency of the pricing model,” added Bin Braik.
One of the improvements noted is the upgrade of parking areas. Road access: Majid Al Futtaim in cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority is undertaking significant upgrading along all the roads around the Mall of the Emirates. This will improve the flow of vehicles by 15 to 20 percent and also enhance better access for drivers from Abu Dhabi.
This new barrier less parking scheme will use advanced cameras to capture license plates; of course, this would mean fewer setbacks and waits in the entry and exit points. According to Bin Braik, such innovations could save visitors up to 20 seconds or even several minutes in peak periods during which they can spend more time in the malls.
