Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem breaks record, wins historic javelin gold in Olympics

Pakistan javelin star Arshad Nadeem brought the gold medal hunt for the country to an end while creating a new Olympic record of 92.97 meters.

Arshad attempted a throw of 92.97 meters in his second attempt and this definitely earned him the gold.

This throw also became an Olympic record that was held previous to this record by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. He surpassed Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen, who threw farthest at 90.57 during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

This is the first individual gold medal for any Pakistan in Olympics; the first in athletics and the first gold in any sport in the last 40 years.

Pakistan again got an Olympic medal after a drought of 32 years. The last Pakistan won a medal was in 1992 when the national hockey team triumphed for the bronze medal by beating Netherlands 4-3 in the Barcelona Olympics.

While, India’s Neeraj Chopra, defending champion in this event threw 89.45 to clinch the silver medal. Anderson Peters of Grenada managed to get only the bronze with a throw of 88.54m.
