In a progressive effort toward sustainability, several mosques across the UAE will be equipped with EV charging stations, said the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on Thursday. In partnership with the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, or Awqaf, the project aims to enhance the energy efficiency of religious centers across the country.
The ministry said, this initiative is in line with its intent to continue improving energy efficiency by supporting environmental sustainability and reducing emissions in the building sector. “By installing EV charging stations in mosques, we are not only advocating for green mobility but equally providing basic infrastructure for electric vehicle users,” the authority explained in its statement.
The move follows the recent issue of licenses to two private firms, Tesla and UAEV, to operate EV charging stations in Dubai. Dewa unveiled the first CPO independent charge point operator licences at GITEX Global 2024. This sets a great move toward making the city a sustainable transport metropolis.
Charges at mosques, besides making electric vehicle use popular, will also highlight the commitment made by the UAE towards a greener future for generations. Embracing and support as renewable energy solutions, an initiative of this nature will pave way to a greener and more ecological environment.
