Prince William visits Kuwait on Sunday for 4-day Visit

Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge arrived in Kuwait on Sunday on a four-day official state visit to both Kuwait and Oman. This will mark the first trip of the Young Monarch to the region after his father, Prince Charles, who visited the Middle East back in 2015.

Duke of Cambridge was received by Minister of Kuwaiti Royal Affairs Sheikh Ali Jarrah Al Sabah and his deputy Sheikh Mohammad Al Sabah upon his arrival at the Kuwait International Airport. This visit comes in of great significance as 120th anniversary year of the signing of a friendship treaty between Kuwait and Britain approaches. The treaty was originally signed on January 23, 1899.

Kensington Palace said his four-day programme “will pay tribute to the historic ties Britain shares with Kuwait and Oman”.

“The visit of the British Royal to the Gulf will focus on education, military links and the environment. His Royal Highness will meet with young leaders, entrepreneurs, students and learn about organizations working to educate and empower young people”, said the Kensington Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II, has visited the Gulf twice, in 1979 and 2010.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office requested the trip, in which he “will take in both countries’ unique cultures, their beautiful landscapes and diverse communities”, Kensington Palace said.

On his tour that starts today, the British Royal will be attending a Kuwaiti-British military exercise and tour educational and environmental institutions in Kuwait.

Prince William will join Kuwaiti and British troops undertaking a desert warrior exercise. He will also visit Kuwait’s deserts and Oman’s wadis to learn more about how both nations are acting to protect their unique natural environments.

Kensington Palace added: “From the modern capitals of Kuwait City and Muscat to the vast Kuwaiti deserts and stunning wadis in the Omani mountains, the visit will take in both countries’ unique cultures, their beautiful landscapes, and diverse communities.”
