RTA Announces Extended Dubai Metro Timings to Support Dubai Marathon

The New Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a special schedule for the operation of Dubai Metro from 5 am instead of the usual 8 am on Sunday, January 12, to meet the dates of the Dubai Marathon, which will also be held on that same day, for smooth transportation for participants and spectators.

Some Key Features on Extended Metro Timings:

  • New Metro Timing: For those taking an early start with the Dubai Marathon, the Metro service now has an extra opening time at 5 am on January 12.
  • Overview of the Dubai Marathon: The 24th edition of the popular marathon will take place on January 12, including thousands of runners participating in a 42 km challenge that will begin at 6 am.
  • The base stopper: The race starts and ends at Umm Suqeim Road, across from Madinat Jumeirah. It is a three-scheduled event:
    • Full Marathon – 42 km
    • Running for 10 km
    • Fun run for 4 km
  • Notable Attendances: Lelisa Desisa will return as former world marathon champion, highly regarded personal best 2:04:45 during his victory over the 2013 Dubai Marathon, and the 34-year-old Ethiopian will host an elite field of world-class runners.
  • Event Background: Where the Dubai Marathon becomes more popular among the guests, it is held yearly since 1998 since it invites participants from every part of the globe thus becoming one of the most awaited sporting events in the city.

Lastly, the extended metro timings will ensure that both participants and spectators are enabled to travel comfortably and on time, which makes it easy to be a successful and enjoyable marathon.
