RTA Announces Registration Date for Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the registration date for Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport. The registration will start from Tuesday, May 1.

Interested candidates can apply online through the SD Challenge website. The competition is taking place in collaboration with NewCities International Organization and Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi.

According to the Director of Transportation Systems and Head of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport Committee, Adel Shakri, “Registration for the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport starts tomorrow (1st May), finalists will be announced next October and winners will be honored on 15th October, 2019. The total prize money of the challenge exceeds US$5 million.”

The challenge is part of the RTA’s efforts to encourage the leading role of Dubai in Self-Driving Transport and its commitment to realize government’s vision of transforming 25 percent of total mobility trips in Dubai into driverless trips by 2030.

With this initiative, RTA seeks to bring together the experts, specialists, policymakers, technology drivers, researchers and academicians. And it will also attempt to come up with the best ideas and visions that serve the Dubai Government’s drive. It is RTA’s first strategic goal and Dubai initiative towards Smart Dubai.
