Selling Your Car in Dubai: All You Need to Know

Is it time to say farewell to your old vehicle? Selling a car in the UAE involves several steps and documents that one should be aware of.

Whether you’re selling your car to upgrade or move overseas, legal procedures are necessary before transferring ownership. To ensure a smooth process, it’s important to improve the car’s condition and be transparent with potential buyers about the documentation. One crucial step is removing the Salik tag to avoid any charges to the previous owner after the car ownership has been transferred to the buyer. This may also lead to fines if there is no balance in the previous owner’s Salik account.

The process of removing an important tag from a vehicle has been made simpler by the RTA. This process is now free of charge and also provides protection to the seller from any issues that may arise during the selling process. Whether the vehicle is owned by a company or an individual, this guide will provide you with all the necessary information to remove the tag.

The documents required for removing a Salik tag differ depending on whether it is an individual or a company that wants to remove it.

For individuals:

Who want to remove their Salik tag without selling their vehicle, a valid Emirates ID is required. The process can only be completed through Customer Happiness Centres and Salik Service Counters.

For companies:

Who want to remove their Salik tags, the following documents are required: a valid Emirates ID of the applicant (if the ownership of the vehicle has not changed), and an official letter signed and stamped by the company that includes the plate numbers and Salik tags that must be removed. The process can only be completed through Customer Happiness Centres and Salik Service Counters. Individuals who want to remove the Salik tag for selling purposes must provide a valid Emirates ID.

The service for removing tags can be accessed online or in person. Customers can avail the service through the website, smart application, or call center to receive instant results. However, if they choose to visit Customer Happiness Centers or Salik Customer Service Counters, it may take up to 10 minutes to obtain the results.
