Sharjah is now host to a brand-new picturesque spot for its residents and tourists to visit. Yes, we are talking about a pristine lake that has opened to the public and is situated amidst the mountains. Named Al Hefaiyah Lake, this is a part of the emirate’s upcoming urban development projects. Here is everything you need to know about the water body.
Al Hefaiyah Lake, which also serves as a strategic water reservoir for people, recently opened on the Sharjah-Kalba Road after the Al Hiyar Tunnel. Al Hefaiyah Lake, on the Sharjah-Kalba Road in the city of Kalba, spans 132,000 square metres.
It has a capacity of 155 million gallons and a depth of up to four meters. A part of the urban development project in Sharjah, this lake is surrounded by a dual road that is 3.17 km in length. As a result, it allows tourists to take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful view of the picturesque waterbody. Moreover, there is also a play area for children that covers 620 m², which makes it even more fantastic.
The lake will not be just a tourist spot but will also be a crucial tool in Sharjah’s efforts to boost its defenses against flooding, which is prevalent in mountainous areas such as those found in the emirate and the rest of the Northern Emirates.
In a post by the Sharjah Media on X, it was also mentioned that this lake was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi. He is the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. As it happens, the development plans of the lake have been supported by the most recent technology, which includes innovative construction materials that are suited for hilly climates. Additionally, there are pipes that link the mountain to the lake for surplus water storage, valley run-off management, and rainwater collection. In fact, the lake also has a 3.2-km-long water channel. This brings the water from the lowlands and surrounding mountains into the water body. During the inauguration event, the Sharjah ruler took a tour of the mountain trails spanning 11.7 km.
