The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan approves Dh750 million in funding for the upcoming phase of the Dubai Research, Development, and Innovation Program, with the stated goal of placing Dubai in the top ranks of world cities through innovation by 2033.
At a meeting in Thursday, Sheikh Hamdan presented the goals of the program, which focuses on furthering the emirate’s technology-based economy and raising its competitiveness worldwide. He said that the project aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, where he wants Dubai to become one of the world’s preferred destinations for talent. These will include global partnership building, increasing the research investment of the private sector, and further accelerating innovation-driven start-ups.
The Crown Prince also greenlit several other strategic initiatives, including the Dubai Resilience Strategy, which looks to position the emirate to be prepared for the future. It will protect communities, strengthen infrastructure, and have strong governance in place to position Dubai as a global leader in resilience by leveraging the success of the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decisions that were made included the approval of the Dubai Food Security Strategy. The strategy was documented and pointed out sustainability and food production localization through advanced technologies. This strategy involves the implementation of a digital platform with efforts towards reducing food wastage and focuses on small producers.
Lastly, Sheikh Hamdan gave the go-signal for the Criminal Judgements Implementation System. The said system is a way to further enhance the judicial process through modernized technological ways of accelerating litigation, increasing efficiency, and improving public confidence in the judicial system. In turn, it helps take a step further in fulfilling the ambitions of Dubai to become the innovation hub and a centre of excellence worldwide.
