While the UAE’s scorching sun can reach up to 50ºC, defying the odds, a strawberry farm nestled in the mountains of Hatta flourishes year-round. Utilizing modern farming practices such as greenhouses and advanced irrigation methods, this farm boasts a constant harvest of strawberries.
One of its unique offerings is a pick-your-own strawberry option, where visitors can enter for free and pluck strawberries for a price ranging from Dh15-30, which may escalate during peak seasons. Additionally, the farm has diversified its products to include jam and juice, supporting the local community and fostering pride.
With about 18,000 seedlings irrigated by an advanced hydroponic system, the farm optimizes water usage by circulating it through the plants, thus conserving this precious resource. The controlled environment of the greenhouses allows for year-round production despite the extreme summer conditions.
The story of the farm’s success is a testament to passion and perseverance. Inspired by a visit to a similar farm in Europe, Khalfan Humaid Al Mutaiwai embarked on a journey to cultivate strawberries in the UAE. Despite initial skepticism due to the intense heat, his determination led to the farm’s expansion, supported by the Dubai government.
