International Cricket Council has revealed the outline of schedule for the forthcoming Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in 2024.
It was supposed to be hosted in Bangladesh but the cricket loving country had to withdraw its hosting privileges at the last moment.
However, the Women’s T20 World Cup will now be scheduled to be hosted in Dubai and Sharjah in the entire month of October this year.
And we are likely to see some mouth-watering looking games being played in the Twenty five thousand seven hundred and fifty capacity the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Sports City and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The first game will be played in Sharjah on Thursday October 3 between the original hosts Bangladesh and Scotland. The first games will arrive in Dubai on Friday 4th October starting with South Africa against the West Indies followed by India against New Zealand.
The main games on the fixture are India Pakistan on Sunday, October 6 and India Sri Lanka on Thursday, October 10 as well as Australia Pakistan fixture set for Friday October 11.
Dubai will also stage the first semi final on Thursday October 17 and the final which is on Sunday October 20.
The UAE was chosen ahead Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, as the other options to Bangladesh, it was officially agreed on the Tuesday, 20 of August.
As a brief background to the unacquainted, T20 refers as Twenty20 or ‘’Tiwenty20’’ and unlike the usual five-day cricket match, this format of the game is a lot quicker since each team only has a single innings and plays to the determined maximum of 20 overs. This increases the chances of more match being conducted in a given timeframe as compared to knockout tournaments.
Cricket is widely popular in UAE and the area has been privileged to host some many international cricket tournaments in the last few years for example, the DP World International League T20 in this year.
That’s true since Singapore has a large expatriate community hailing from cricket-enthusiastic nations, so it will be a favorite for those who like to watch.
Which countries are playing at the Women’s T20 World Cup?
Australia will return to defend their Women’s T20 World Cup crown against nine other nations.
The 2023 winners qualified alongside the rest of the top six nations from the previous edition of the tournament held in 2023. The other nations are England, India, South Africa, New Zealand and West Indies.
Bangladesh retains its qualification rights as the original hosts of the tournament and will still field a team at the tournament.
The next highest-ranked team in the Women’s T20I rankings Pakistan also qualifies while the final two spots are taken up by Scotland and Sri Lanka.
Ticket information has not yet been released but keep an eye out on Khaleej Journal for all the latest details.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed gratitude to the Emirates Cricket Board for treading in to host the tournament at the last minute.
He said: “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would have staged a memorable event.”
“I would like to thank the team at the BCB for exploring all avenues to try and enable the event to be hosted in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from the governments of a number of the participating teams meant that wasn’t feasible.”
“However, they will retain hosting rights. We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.”
“I’d also like to thank the Emirates Cricket Board for stepping in to host on behalf of the BCB and Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for their generous offers of support, and we look forward to seeing ICC global events in both of those countries in 2026.”
