UAE announces July 18 as Union Pledge Day

July 18 can also be considered one of the significant days in the country’s history since a crucial meeting took place on this very day preceding the formation of the UAE federation on December 2, 1971. The end of this process was the announcement of the official name of the UAE after signing the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution by the Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed, and the Rulers of other emirates.

To commemorate this, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed made July 18 Union Pledge Day for the UAE. He stated that Union Pledge Day is an opportunity to recall the path of development of the country, to learn, and to make conclusions for the present and the future.

To announce this change, the President made the declaration on his social media platforms.

“On this day in 1971, the Founding Father and his brothers the Rulers signed the declaration of the Union and the UAE Constitution while announcing the name of our country: the United Arab Emirates. In preparation for the nation’s establishment on 2 December, it was a historic day on which they laid the foundations of the Union. Today, we declare 18 July as Union Pledge Day, a national occasion to celebrate the history of our country and the blessed journey towards establishing the Union.”

Union Pledge Day is the fourth national event in the UAE following Union Day, Flag Day, and Commemoration Day.
