UAE declares a 2-month grace period for residence visa trespassers

Perpetrators of residence visa law will be allowed to spend up to two months of amnesty period to have their fines renounced the UAE authorities declared on Thursday.

This is the grace period, which will begin from September 1, and violators will escape both types of sanctions stipulated by the Federal Law on the Entry and Residency of Foreigners 117-FZ.

The Authority will do all its best to put into operation this measure without fines and legal consequences will be canceled, violators will be able to correct their status or leave the country freely.

The ICP, in a statement, indicated that the move is intended for violators to seek legal options and another chance to legalize their stay in the UAE in adherence to the law given the tolerance of the Emirate, which they say is shaped on the principles of compassion.

The procedures for this amnesty will soon be released, the ICP stated.

Residence visa rules

As with residence visas, there might be some discrepancies related to their validity according to the type and sponsor in the UAE. Normally, a sponsored visa can be for 1, 2 or 3 years while a self-sponsored visa can be used for a period of 5 or 10 years.

It was stated that those SMES who are unable to leave the country or extend their visa before the visa expires will have to pay fines.

In 2023, the penalties have been standardized at the following: People who over stay their visas now, whether they are residents, tourists or visit visa holders, now pay Dh50 per day if they were previously paying Dh100 per day.

The grace period extended to expatriates who would like to renew their visa is 6 months in case their resident visa has been cancelled or has expired.
