UAE Educators Propose to Integrate AI into Schools to Prepare Students for Future Work

In the Emirates, those country’s educators want integrate AI into the school curricula, arming the students with skills for the present digital world. This is from research conducted by PowerSchool and YouGov on how there is an emerging need to introduce a new education system that embraces AI and other advanced technologies to facilitate learning outcomes-something 90 per cent of educators in the Emirates and Saudi Arabia consider true.

Advantages of Teaching AI Earlier

Louis La Grange, who heads Science and ICT at Uptown International School, believes Artificial Intelligence, coding, and robotics should be introduced progressively with age. For the younger students, Scratch and Minecraft Education would be the key to helping them think and create critically. To the older students, one could introduce more advanced AI applications that have aspects of ethical frameworks as well as good output quality.

AI helps develop critical thinking and problem-solving and assists in language learning, mainly for students who become proficient in English as a second language,” La Grange described. He elaborated on how he had used AI to help Chinese students overcome the barrier of language.

AI to Empower Teachers and Automate Tasks

The educators also view AI as an efficiency tool in teaching. As the report points out, 51% of respondents stated that automation of mundane tasks, such as grading and attendance, would be the primary advantage of AI. “Early education in AI helps children understand computational thinking and problem-solving. It also empowers teachers by automating routine tasks,” said Sangita Chima, principal, Amity School Dubai.

Readiness of Students for the Future

Principal Shining Star International, Abhilasha Singh says her school in the middle school offers AI as a skill-based subject to prepare for the looming job markets. “AI is here to stay, and we have to prepare our students. But we must also be mindful of the academic integrity,” she said.

Teachers pointed out that schools need to have responsive AI policies to guide a student in the proper use of AI while balancing his technological curiosities with critical awareness.
