Young golfer Rayan Ahmed is set for a history-making appearance for UAE in the 2024 US Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
It is for the first time in 129 years of the tournaments history that the UAE get to be represented.
Playing in the 36-holes qualifier is Ahmed- a 17-year UAE passport holder. Recently he created a storm by being a medalist recently in his latest qualifying round at Columbine Country Club, proving his prowess and zeal.
After the performance, Ahmed said: ‘I hit the ball well off the tee averaging over 320 yards, got on the greens, made the side-hill putts and the downhill putts. I was on course and what worked was my performance on the greens. I holed everything.
“I am so happy to raise the flag for UAE in the U.S. Amateur. I am hugely grateful to my parents for always being there with me through my struggles.”
He is over the Chaska Town Golf Club at 12.52 pm for the first round on Hole 10, (US Local time).
Tuesday’s round is at Hazeltine National Golf Club at 7.22 am from Hole 1 with the intention of trimming it down to the last 64 for the match play competition, with a play off if necessary to get down to this figure.
One round of matchplay takes place on Wednesday followed by two on Friday, Quarter-finals are played on Friday, Semi-finals on Saturday and Championship Match over 36 holes on Sunday and all matchplay over Hazeltine course.
Hazeltine National is home to one of the largest and most challenging golf courses in the United States, and is one of only a handful of golf clubs in the nation to have had the privilege of staging each of the premier events presented by both the USGA and the PGA of America.
Still, Hazeltine is the only club in the entire country of America to be chosen for the privilege of hosting The Ryder Cup for a second time. Bob Trent designed it and was opened for play in 1962.
