UAE: Police Reject Rumors of 50% Traffic Fine Discount in Abu Dhabi

Contrary to information being circulated on social media that traffic fines have been reduced by 50 percent in Abu Dhabi, the police issued a statement on Wednesday stating that no such thing has happened. The Abu Dhabi Police dismissed speculations circulating on social media that the authority is offering a “50% traffic fine”. Currently, the only offer that is available for the Emirate’s motorists is the one designed for the early settlement of dues.

The Abu Dhabi Police added that drivers who settle their fines within two months from the incident of the traffic violation can have 35 percent off their penalties. For payment within 60 days but not more than one year after the issuance of the citation, the fine is reduced by 25 percent they further noted. It is also possible to benefit from paying the fine in instalments through banks at zero interest for a period of 12 months. This is applicable if the credit card is issued by those banks which are contracting with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command and provide payment services via TAMM, the official platform of the Abu Dhabi Government, or direct payment via customer service and happiness counters.

On Wednesday, the police urged motorists to take information only from official sources and avoid spreading unverified reports.

In a traffic reminder this week, the Abu Dhabi Police urged residents not to engage in rumor-mongering by posting information that is inaccurate, especially those that touch on traffic fines. “Use only official sources of information.” False information is prohibited in the UAE, and people violating this rule could be fined DX 200,000 or imprisoned.
