UAE President Orders infrastructure assessment After Record Rainfall

Volatile weather conditions caused mayhem in the United Arab Emirates as the Middle Eastern nation perceived the heaviest rainfall in 75 years.

The rain with heavy winds, hail, and thunderstorms flooded the streets of regions including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, uprooting palm trees as well as shattering building impressions , images never witnessed by Emirates.

On Wednesday, April 18, 2024, in an X/ Twitter post, the UAE government stated the “end of weather fluctuations” that triggered havoc across the nation.

The Ministry of Interior of UAE in co-ordination with the Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the National Centre of Meteorology announced the end of unstable weather conditions and said that the fieldwork teams, including civil defense, ambulances, and police will continue their “intensive efforts” to bring the life back to normal.

According to the local media, President Sheikh Mohammed issued a statement said that the safety of citizens and residents is the top priority. He also ordered a study of the region’s infrastructure, to assess the damage as well as the causes of the extensive destruction.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has also ordered support to be provided to all those affected by the unprecedented storms and weather conditions. WAM reported that the President has ordered families to be moved to safe locations with assistance from local authorities.

The Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid also expressed his thoughts on the effects of the extreme weather via X.

Finally, he said, “Crises reveal the strength of countries and societies… and the natural climate crisis that we experienced showed great care, awareness, cohesion and love for every corner of the country from all its citizens and residents… May God protect the UAE and its society and perpetuate its glory, pride and safety.”

While the nation has been contending with the after-effects of the rain, no further showers have been forecasted till Sunday, as per the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
