The UAE school community is standing up to the alarming trend of vaping among its students. UAE Schools have seen many anti-vaping initiatives, mainly chiefly of late from schools under the GEMS Education banner. The harsh stance taken by schools is now on campuses against vaping and smoking, with a concentration on responsibility and much more awareness.
GEMS Education has initiated a comprehensive zero-tolerance anti-vaping campaign. The measures include random bag checks of students, installation of advanced sensors that detect vapors, and educational programs that inform students on the dangers of nicotine and vaping addiction.
One of the major critical areas of intervention is the use of advanced sensors for vape detection. Strategically installed at different locations throughout the campuses, these sensors have been designed for real-time detection of vape smoke. The moment vape smoke is detected, the sensors go off and notify school administrators. These sensors are highly accurate because they can differentiate between vape smoke and other particles found in the air. In addition, the sensors can pick up voice commands such as “help,” meaning that if a student is having an emergency, the staff will be alerted.
In addition, those caught vaping will be in sessions involving the counseling staff to encourage them to quit vaping. The medical staff will support the students with ongoing assistance while they get treatment for nicotine addiction.
