We are aware of the fact that gender equality at workplace is the matter of respect. In many countries women are under or less paid than men. Often their achievements are not highlighted and they are not provided much opportunities at workplace.
To eliminate gender biasness and to offer equal rights to women at workplace UAE has decided to pay them equal wages as men.
According to the Law on Equal Wages and Salaries for Men and Women, Emirati women have equal opportunities in the UAE’s development, and they are empowered to lead future national strategies and ambitious projects.
Vice President of the UAE, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, shared on Twitter that the first draft of gender equal pay and wage legislation has been approved.
“In the Cabinet of Ministers, we adopted the draft of the first gender equal pay and wage legislation. With the force of law and wisdom, we do not want any exception in providing equal opportunities between the sexes. Our Constitution is among the equal rights and duties of the sexes and we seek to elaborate, enforce and guarantee this constitutional right through the new law.” said on Twitter.
In 2017, the UAE launched a Gender Balance Guide for the workplace that focuses on minimizing the gender gap in public and private sector. By 2021, the UAE aims to be one of the world’s top 25 countries for gender equality.
