WSG 2024: High-profile World Governments Summit kicks off in Dubai on Monday

As His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan along with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum welcomed guests attending the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) emphasized the importance of the summit in fostering global dialogues.

“The World Governments Summit is the UAE’s responsible invitation to the whole world to join the dialogue, share knowledge and invest in new ideas and creative energies that are capable of creating innovative solutions to development challenges and meet peoples’ expectations of a good life and a better future,” he stated in a press release.

WGS 2024 highlights

The annually hosted summit will see over 25 heads of state and governments convene under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.” There will be more than 4,000 expected attendees, which include 140 governments, over 85 international organizations and several thought leaders and experts. WGS will take place until Wednesday, February 14.

In its 11th year, WGS 2024 will have 110 interactive dialogues and sessions featuring 200 speakers. There will also be 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions. These discussions will welcome more than 300 ministers alongside Nobel laureates. The ministerial meetings will include meetings that will gather Arab finance ministers, energy ministers, and ministers involved in sustainable development. With over 100 esteemed personalities and leaders from leading AI companies scheduled to attend, alongside government officials and industry experts, the summit anticipates robust deliberations to empower governments to navigate the AI landscape effectively.

Esteemed attendees include several key government leaders, Narendra Modi, Erdogan, Sam Altman are among the personalities to address the three-day summit including Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr Amr Talaat, Under-Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property of the United States (US) Kathi Vidal, Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Egypt, Ulvi Mehdiyev and Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations of Azerbaijan, Mohamed Abdallahi Louly.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be here on Feb 14 for an in-conversation session — the actor’s first time at the prestigious gathering. Khan, one of India’s most renowned cultural exports, will take to the stage and spearhead a 15-minute discussion on his ascent to fame and fortune during a talk entitled ‘The Making of A Star: A Conversation With Shah Rukh Khan’.

Around 25 strategic reports in collaboration with global think tanks and academic and research bodies addressing global trends across key sectors will be launched during the summit. In addition, 15 global forums focusing on strategizing and future planning in vital sectors will be organized in partnership with international organizations and world tech companies to address challenges across the world.
