Dubai Metro was the most popular mode of public transport in the emirate, with the share of 37% in the total first half ridership of 2024. In total, the use of public transport was observed to have reached 361.2 million in the first half of the year — a statistic that is 6 per cent above the result recorded in the first six months of 2023.
In computing the RTA public transport ridership, the organization takes into account the Metro, Tram, public buses, marine transport, taxis, e-hail vehicles, smart rental vehicles, on-demand buses.
Ridership, in terms of average daily flow in the first half of the year was 1.98 million while the average for the same period in 2023 was at 1.88 million.
Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said: Research indicates that Dubai Metro and taxis received the highest usage of public transport with 37% for the Metro and 27% for the taxis, while the general public bus users’ number stood 24.5% January, 2024 recorded the most users of the public transport at 65 million and for the remaining months it was between 53 to 63 million.
Busiest Metro stations
The total ridership of the Red and Green lines of the Dubai Metro in the first six months of 2024 stood at 133 million. BurJuman and Union stations are two of the highly-used stations, with the two stations registering 7.8 million users and 6.3 million respectively.
According to Al Tayer There were 6.2 million passengers with Al Rigga station on the Red Line and 5.6 millions with Mall of the Emirates, Business Bay station was the third most crowded station with 5.2 million users of the system On the Green line, 4.7 million users were identified in Sharaf DG station, 4.1 million in station Baniyas and 3.3 million in stadium.
Other public transport means
Dubai Tram has carried thirty-four percent more than it did in the same period last year, which was 3,358,750, public buses US 89.2 million and marine transport US 9.7 million.
Combined movement, including e-hail vehicles, hourly rental vehicles, and on-demand buses, transported 27.8 million passengers. Taxis in Dubai carried 97 million passengers in the first half of this year.
“The RTA also focuses on traffic management systems to amplify the efficiency of roads and public transport and implements policies to encourage the public to reduce reliance on private vehicles and increase the use of public and shared transport,” the RTA chief added.
