Filipino expatriates in the UAE can cast their votes during the country’s 2025 Elections over the internet which will be Philippine midterm elections scheduled in May. Voting would be made easier and more convenient, and queuing time for the new system would be reduced.
A new Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be used for the first time in the Philippines. Recently, the Philippine Consulate-General in Dubai released guidelines for the new system. Officially, election day would fall on May 12, 2025; however, overseas absentee voting would be from April 13 to May 12, 2025, so Filipinos abroad can vote within a 30-day window.
Overseas Filipinos deserve to be accorded the right to vote as most of them remit their income back to the motherland and, therefore, contribute to the general balance of the country’s economy. Their views and opinions must be considered a high priority because the policies and the leaders they will help choose will make huge differences in economic and social conditions back home, affecting their families and the nation that they continue to support financially.
Starting February 27, 2025, registration on the Comelec’s online voting portal is necessary for those qualified to vote. As an additional feature, online voting could be accessed by any mobile and desktop device while kiosks would also be available at the consulate in Dubai and the embassy in Abu Dhabi for those who want to vote manually.
