Islamic New Year holiday declared in UAE for private sector employees

UAE government, on Tuesday, announced that the private sector employees in the UAE will get a paid holiday on July 7. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization(MoHRE) called the holiday, which will be on Sunday, to celebrate Hijri New Year. This date marks Muharram first, the beginning of the new Hijri year 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.

Other countries like Oman for instance will also be having a holiday for Hijri New Year on July 7 for both civil servants and the private sectors thus meaning that employees in the civil service and organizations that practice a Monday to Friday working week will have a long weekend.

Currently, in UAE citizens will able to use some remaining days off till the end of the year, for instance, on the day of birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), i.e. the 12th Rabi Ul Awwal. A Long weekend will also come for the National Day that is the last official holiday of the year.

This information is a list of holidays for 2024 all released by the country’s Cabinet dealing in governmental operations at the time of writing. The general public holidays are apart from the 30 leaves to be availed in a year by the employees of the UAE.
